Introducing Tinkerplay: anyone can make 3D printed creatures and characters

We're pleased to announce a new addition to Autodesk's family of easy-to-use apps for all: Tinkerplay. I've been using this app for a while, and I'm very excited to share all the features and enhancements the team has been working on.

Tinkerplay is an app for iOS, Android and Windows that lets you design great-looking creatures and characters, and then 3D print them. It's incredibly fun to use, you can choose from a wide range of parts that just snap together, and then customize them with colors and textures.

Start with professionally created templates, or make your own creations. We'll be rolling many more exciting templates going forward, as well as new parts to make your creations more varied. Keep reading after the break to see more things you can do with Tinkerplay!

The parts are designed to print perfectly on a wide range of 3D printers, with no support material or rafts necessary. The resulting creations are durable and flexible, and above all, fun to play with.

It's very easy and fun: even a young child can enjoy it, and be thrilled when they see their designs made real! (The model shown above was created by my 4 year old!)

You can save your creations to multiple different online storage services, including Autodesk's own 123D, Dropbox, Google Drive, Makerbot Cloud and others. Share screen shots of your creations, including detailed and configurable background environments.

Going forward, you'll see us adding features into other Autodesk programs that will let you customize and create models that work with Tinkerplay, expanding your creative universe even further. For now, the 3D print-ready files created by Tinkerplay can be imported into any Autodesk program that lets you edit STL files, such as Tinkercad or Meshmixer.

Read more about Tinkerplay here, and download it from your app store of choice!
